The Mama Bear's Guide
to Getting Toxins Out of Your Home

Take charge of your family's health

Hey, Mama!

Look at you! I am so proud of you! You are making the first step toward wellness and toxin-free living! No longer will you be fooled by false marketing. It’s time to take your family’s health into your hands. You are their advocate, and with education you can make informed decisions and learn to trust that mommy intuition. God put it there for a reason. We’re going to learn to trust it and build our confidence together. I am excited to connect with you and help you on your journey!

Let's Connect!

First things first. I love finding “my people”...that tribe of like-minded women (men, too!)...who I can geek out with about all things crunchy. (You may be thinking, “Oh HECK NO. She’s a hippie!”. It’s ok. Just go along with me. You’re going to be one, too...and you’re going to LOVE it.) Either way you will be part of a great community and you’ll learn some new things to better your health! So take a sec and connect with me on Insta and Facebook. Besides getting some great everyday tips for wellness and organization (two of my passions), you’ll get a glimpse into my life and be part of my tribe! I look forward to getting to know you better!

Let's Dive In

Ok, now that we are officially friends, let’s get to work. Before we can make changes, we need to understand what the bad chemicals are, where they’re hiding, and why they are bad. Now, there are a lot and we couldn’t possibly cover them all, so we’ll just go over some of the major players and some general guidelines to understanding labels.

A good guideline is, if you can’t pronounce it or don’t know what it is, don’t use it. That may be better suited to food labels, however, because in household and self-care products, there are many scientific names for things that you may not recognize (or be able to pronounce) but aren’t always bad. This is where your friend, Google, comes in handy. Simply Google “risks of…” followed by the chemical name to get an idea of what you’re dealing with. You can also check out your products on the EWG Healthy Living app. The EWG (Environmental Working Group) rates many products based on their ingredient safety.

Another thing to be aware of is false marketing or “greenwashing”.

Greenwashing definition: Form of spin in which green PR or green marketing is deceptively used to promote the perception that an organization's products, aims or policies are environmentally friendly

Think labels that say things like, “green”, “clean”, “toxin-free”, and my personal favorite, “natural”. Sadly, these labels often don’t represent the true nature of the product, but instead are an FDA-approved means to dupe consumers into thinking that what they’re buying is good and healthy. Well, you’re smarter than that and you’re going to know what to look for so that those labels don’t fool you. Here are some common toxins found in everyday products that you’ll want to avoid...
Common Toxins

Fragrance

Synthetic fragrance is one of the top five allergens in the WORLD.

Toluene=TOXIC. Toluene is a solvent for paint, paint thinners, silicone sealants, rubber, printing ink, glue, lacquer, leather and disinfectants.

Inhalation can cause tiredness, confusion, weakness, drunken-like actions, memory loss, nausea, loss of appetite, and hearing and color vision loss.

This one is in EVERYTHING!

Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS)

So now what???

Don’t worry, Mama. Hope is not lost!

I know this seems overwhelming but I’ve got you. It doesn’t have to be hard. It’s all about BABY STEPS. You are going to tackle this ONE. THING. AT. A TIME.

You know some of the things to look for now. Going forward, I want you to select one (or a few) products to start swapping out. Next month, pick a few more. You just keep on going until your home is toxin-free (or at least what you can control). I am giving you a checklist of common things that you’ll likely need/want to change out to get you started with some ideas.

But what do you swap those things out FOR??? Well, I’m glad you asked. More and more companies are stepping up standards because mamas like us are demanding better for our families. But I found a company that has made ditching and switching SOOOO easy. I tried for around 20 years to gradually detox my home...but once I found this company, I was able to do just that in a year or two. They have everything I need and then some! They have amazingly high quality and purity standards, have a very loyal following with their customers/brand partners (because the products WORK), and they have a heart for giving and for the environment. I feel good about not only using these products for my family, but I feel so blessed to support a company that has such a strong moral compass.
